WRA is the organizing force behind FREE run/walk clinics for women, which are held for 10 weeks each spring. The first clinic was held in Conway, Arkansas in 1997. Since the first clinic of 75 women in 1997; to over 40 Clinics State wide in 2012 and over 4000 ladies each year, the clinics have impacted women’s health!
The clinics are designed to meet the needs of all ability levels. From beginning walkers and runners, to intermediate and advanced runners with specific training goals, No one is left out! Training groups are led by past clinic participants who give back by volunteering their time and talent to lead other women. Training plans have been tweaked for each category in order to increase strength and endurance and prevent injury.
The clinics culminate with a women’s 5K in Conway, AR. It is an inspiring race, with some runners and walkers completing their first competitive event, while participants from previous clinics and races return to compete and cheer on their sister athletes.

After the governor’s press conference Sunday announcing statewide school closures WRA is updating our guidance on clinic meetings. All clinics will follow the no public school, no in person clinic meetings. We want to do our part to help stop the spread of this virus.
Follow your local clinic on social media and check your email to keep up-to-date on the latest clinic information, to get your intervals for the week, and other information from your director. Feel free to share pictures of your training on your local Facebook page or even the state Facebook page. Training on your own is not always easy and we want to encourage each other during the time we use the virtual option.
Our graduation event is eight weeks away and as you know the precautions being taken in light of the Covid 19 have clinics operating in a virtual manner. Please be encouraged and don’t give up on your training! WRA, it’s board, directors and leaders are here to see you successfully across that finish line in May! We expect things to be back to normal by April, but in the event things don’t work that way WE WILL STILL HAVE A 5K. The WRA board has agreed to move all registrations to virtual if the worst-case scenario happens and we cannot host a public event on May 9th. Keep on training and keep each other encouraged!
Communication will be key in the following weeks, follow us on Facebook Women Run Arkansas Running Club and check out our website womenrunrkansas.net for the latest information.
